January 20, 2010

ShareThis

Background
This information compares Pennsylvania among all states for gasoline and diesel taxes. The data was obtained from the American Petroleum Institute and is updated quarterly.

Attached are charts showing gasoline and diesel taxes for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Pennsylvania ranks 12th nationally in total state/local taxes on gasoline and 7th nationally in diesel taxes.

Each state has a unique combination of taxes which can include state excise taxes, sales taxes, gross receipts tax, county and local taxes, underground storage tank fees, and various environmental fees.

Notes: Figures on the following charts represent state and local taxes and do not include the federal taxes of 18.4 cents for gasoline and 24.4 cents for diesel.
