PennDOT lets another $82 million of projects in October
The state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) put out just over $82 million in projects in October bringing the year-to-date letting total to $1.73 billion. To date, the department has let a total of 773 projects worth $1.733 billion. Despite the recent rejection of tolls on I-80, PennDOT still anticipates meeting their 2010 letting goal of $1.8 billion. Where it all began
When it comes to understanding Pennsylvania’s highway funding woes, few editorial boards can claim to have a better grasp than that of the Washington Observer-Reporter.
It was in this newspaper’s circulation area that the state’s transportation funding crisis became “official.” In December 2005, a bridge carrying Lakeview Drive traffic collapsed onto Interstate 70 in Washington County, and the funding problem became much more than a few project engineers and construction executives wringing their hands over the shrinking resources of PennDOT.
