Pa. transportation commission adopts 12-year transportation program
Pennsylvania will invest more than $90 billion over the next 12 years on roads, bridges, transit systems, airports, railroad and other active transportation. The commission adopted the state’s 2027 12-Year Transportation Program that determines how the state will allocate transportation infrastructure funding.
Pa. State Police are becoming the local police
Public safety and law enforcement spending has increased by more than $1.3 billion since 2020, and Shapiro has dedicated $63 million to training new cadet classes during his term as governor. The administration also nearly doubled funding for municipal police training in the 2024-25 budget.
SEPTA plans $2 billion Regional Rail fleet replacement
SEPTA is moving forward with a $2 billion effort to replace its oldest Regional Rail cars, even though the transit agency has yet to secure all the money needed for the project and riders could wait about seven years for the new trains. Pennsylvania has approved an updated long-term transportation plan that includes the $2 billion project to replace all 218 of SEPTA’s Silverliner IV rail cars.
Amtrak adds second train connecting Pgh. and NYC
Taking the train from the Steel City to the Big Apple, the City of Brotherly Love, and other stops will soon be easier thanks to upgrades from Amtrak. Outgoing President Roger Harris confirmed that Amtrak will add a second Pennsylvanian service during a July 29 public board meeting.
